U.S. crude oil, natural gas production to drop in May: EIA
U.S. crude oil and natural gas production are both expected to dip in May with declines in all seven major drilling areas, according to the U.S. Department of Energy and its Energy Information Administration.
That’s due to less demand from the cornavirus pandemic and lower commodity prices, Kallanish Energy reports.
Oil production is projected to drop from 8,709,000 barrels per day in April 2020 to 8,526,000 in May 2020, a decline of 2.1%, the EIA said in its new Drilling Productivity Report.
Natural gas production is expected to slip from 84,027 million cubic feet per day in April to 83,158 million cubic feet per day in May, a drop of 1%.
The biggest drop in oil production is expected in the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico where oil production is projected to drop 76,000 barrels per day.
For natural gas, the biggest drop is projected in the Appalachian Basin of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia where production in May is expected to drop 326 million cubic feet per day.
